The garage isn’t always high on
the organization priority list, but with so many new storage
options available to homeowners, there’s no reason not to
clear out the clutter in your garage.
If you’re lucky enough to have a garage with a tall ceiling,
the back wall should provide plenty of room for extra
storage, such as cubbyhole cabinets and wall-hung wire
racks. Adjustable shelves are perfect for equipment such as
camping gear and other large items. For smaller pieces and
seasonal tools and devices, stackable containers are a good
choice.
Here are some more storage ideas for the garage:
A new trend in garage storage is a library-style ladder.
Create lofted storage in the garage for even more space and
purchase this type of ladder to reach everything with ease.
It has hooks on the top attached to a metal rail installed
along the front of the cabinets.
A fold-out workbench gives you the utmost in flexibility
without taking up too much room. It provides adequate
storage for tools and other knickknacks as well as a place
to work when needed.
Grid-and-module systems work well in a garage environment
because they are adaptable to more than one mode of storage.
Use them to store skis or other long pieces of equipment and
keep items up off the floor. Especially important in an area
such as the garage is to create storage spaces that can be
used for more than one purpose.
Keep garbage and recycling bins at the end of the garage and
purchase a large-wheeled cart to make transporting the bins
to and from the curb an easy task.
Bicycle storage is relatively simple. Bikes are best kept
out of the way when not is use – mount bikes flush to a side
wall by installing a bike rack and consider buying an
accessory rack for bike helmets, inline skates, and other
related items.
For the avid gardener, a work center specifically for garden
tools that is mounted to the wall and allows for attachable
modules is a fantastic solution.
Ropes and pulleys are a great way to lift large and heavy
items, such as a canoe, onto the ceiling and make it easy to
lower them onto a car rack. |
