Combat clutter, become more
organized, and make better use of space by taking advantage
of the hidden spaces in your home. These ideas will help you
find room you never knew you had.
Storage in a hutch
Turn an opportunity for storage into a beautiful piece of
furniture and you'll get to experience the best of both
worlds without making any sacrifices. Storage can look good
and be functional. For instance, a built-in dining room
hutch offers you a large amount of storage space but it also
works as a stunning piece of furniture. And if you build one
with open shelves on top and install recessed lights to
display your best glassware, you can add even more storage
and interest to the room. Large drawers on the bottom can
hold china and linens but keep them hidden.
Hidden background storage
If you require a large amount of storage but don't want it
to overwhelm the room, it's possible to create closet space
without having it dominate an entire area. A row of closets,
for example, can blend into the rest of the room if you
paint them the same color as the walls. When you close the
doors, the closet seems to disappear into the wall and blend
in. Inside, organized drawers and shelves allow for the most
amount of storage possible. A built-in bookcase can give you
even more storage.
Pull-down bins
The best way to keep unwanted clutter from taking over a
room is to build interior storage along walls that remains
hidden and out-of-sight when closed, but is easily
accessible as soon as you open the drawer. Pull-down bins
under a window seat are also ideal for families with small
children, as they make perfect storage bins for toys and
other odds and ends. Cubbyholes on either side of this type
of storage create even more room for toy storage.
Under the stairs
Most people forget how much room you can find underneath the
stairs. If you take advantage of this area, your storage
woes could be over very soon. When you're building a house
or renovating it, don't cover this spot with drywall -
instead, install shelves and other storage options to make
organizing your home that much easier. |
