Whirlpool Tub Plumbing Tips

Before you begin, consider your skills as a carpenter and plumber. If you are the average weekend home repair mogul, you may want to sit this project out. You will need a lot of skills with big, powerful tools like soldering tools and a mini tubing cutter. Also, you will need to understand the basics of plumbing and carpentry. If you aren't completely comfortable with using tools like this, you should definitely consult a construction professional or a professional plumber.

Another very important aspect of Whirlpool tub plumbing are the building codes that apply to your home and the homes in your area. If you are not familiar with your neighborhood building codes, you should look into that before you even begin your project. Like any construction project, Whirlpool tub plumbing will require the right permits and the right construction procedures. If these are not followed, there is a chance you will have to start over again. A local construction professional will have this information and will be able to apply it to your specific situation.

Once you have passed all of the above requirements, you can begin replacing your tub. The first thing you need to do is turn off the water. Be sure that the hot and cold taps are working before you turn the water off. Then try the faucets once you have shut off the taps to ensure there won't be any leakage. Then you will want to disconnect waste and overflow fixtures. While you are doing this, check to be sure you don't need to replace the P-trap or any galvanized fittings.

Now you have only to move on to demolition of the old tub and replacement with the new tub. Remember that you will need to match up the new Whirlpool tub plumbing with the plumbing fixtures from the old tub when you are setting the new Whirlpool. This can easily be done by "roughing out" the new fixtures like the drain, the faucet and the tub spout. Making a drawing can help to prevent any problems once you are ready to install the new tub.
