What
Is Spray On Athletic Flooring?
In the athletic world, there are many surprises. Whether you
are rooting for your favorite team and to your shock and
dismay, they lose in the last few seconds, or your favorite
athlete suddenly sprains his ankle before the game, not many
things will startle the avid sports fan. But the invention
of a spray on athletic flooring could be something that
would shock sports fans and constructions professionals
alike.
While there are no current examples of spray on athletic
flooring, many sports flooring companies are working on
formulas. Some companies are working with chemicals and
liquids that can be used for floorings, but most of these
companies have yet to perfect a perfect spray on athletic
flooring.
Spray On Athletic Flooring
Most athletic floorings are not spray on athletic flooring
but instead they are a floor made of interlocking rubber
tiles that cover a floor. The material can be either
recycled or non-recycled (also called "virgin") rubber. The
tiles are laid down one at a time, sometimes using an
adhesive underneath, and the tiles are locked together with
their specially cut sides that act like a jigsaw puzzle.
While spray on athletic flooring is a thing of the future,
some of these floorings utilize a spray-on top coat. This
top coat is applied after the tiles have been glued to the
floor and locked together completely. The top coat is then
sprayed onto the tiles. This top coat acts as a protectant
and a sealant for the flooring. After it has dried
completely, the top coat serves as a clear plastic-like
coating, almost like a varnish or a lacquer.
Because of all the labor it takes to build and lay an
athletic floor, the potential market for spray on athletic
flooring would be enormous. The only problem would be the
perfection of the application process and the time it would
take for the flooring to dry. Hopefully in the next few
years, a manufacturing company will be able to produce a
time and labor saving spray on athletic flooring. |
