Information about How to Install Adjustable Shelving

Many people find that after a few years in their home they have run short of storage space. This can cause quite a problem in terms of messiness and general clutter. There are some very effective solutions out there, not the least of which is adjustable shelving. Basically, adjustable shelving is shelving that sits on metal rails that are attached to the wall. It is easy to learn how to install adjustable shelving, and it is even easier to find things to occupy your adjustable shelves once they are installed.

Since adjustable shelving sits on metal rails, the first step you will need to take is to measure the adjustable shelving rails to see how they fit on your walls. Determine how high your ceilings are in the room where you want to install the shelving, and then purchase shelving with rails that are that height or shorter. If you cannot find shelving that is short enough, you can cut the rails to the correct length using a saw.

How to Install Adjustable Shelving

The next step in the process of how to install adjustable shelving is measuring and assessing the walls to see where the shelves should sit. Using your level, determine where the rails are level on the wall where you want them. You should use a pencil to mark the place on the wall where the top of the rails hit. Now you are ready to put anchors in the wall. Most self-installation kits come with anchors and all the fasteners you will need. Simply put the anchors into the wall and then using your wall markings, screw the railings to the wall.

Now the only thing you have to do is figure out where you want each shelf. Remember to take into account any furniture or other storage items that might go underneath the shelves so you don't block them with a shelf. Near the railing where each shelf should go, and then install the shelf; and now you've learned how to install adjustable shelving!
