Custom HVAC Filter – One Size Doesn’t Fit All!

A custom HVAC filter is a filter for a central heating and air conditioning system that’s been manufactured to fit your unit. There are lots of reasons why you might need to order custom filters, and they aren’t difficult to find online. But when you order your custom filters, you still need to expect the same efficiency you would from pre-made filters.

There are several ways to order a custom HVAC filter. You can determine if any of the local building supply companies will accept custom orders. You can also order from catalogues. But the simplest way is to browse filter vendors online and have them delivered right to your doorstep.

Custom HVAC filter ordering does require an understanding of your air handling unit and the kind of filter that will work best for your situation. New filters come in a variety of styles and with features that enhance their performance. For example, you can custom order HVAC filters with anti-bacterial additives.

Custom HVAC Filter

HVAC filters have a job to do: collect air particles you don’t want in your house. Different filters use different methods of particle collection. When you shop for your custom HVAC filter, you should have an idea of the kind of filter you want to purchase.

One of the most common HVAC filters is the furnace filter. It uses fiberglass layers with a steel layer in a cardboard frame. You see these kinds of filters in most hardware stores and building supply businesses because of their versatility.

Other kinds of filters are electrostatic filters, pleated filters, polyester filters and aluminum mesh filters. Some are in disposable frames while others are in frames you keep and only the filter material is changed. Still other filters contain filtering material in wire frames.

When you order a custom HVAC filter, you want to look for certain features that ensure your air unit operates efficiently. Of course, you want to first check your manual and find out what kind of filter is recommended. Then you should consider the following factors:

How often you need to change the filter
Level of dust capturing ability
Whether filter can be cleaned instead of replaced each time
Kinds of air pollutants filter will capture
Filter efficiency rating

As you can see, there are many different HVAC filters on the market. When you can’t find the filter you need already pre-made, many filter companies sell a custom HVAC filter made to your specifications.
