Square Wood Lattice Panels – Simple Idea with Many Uses

Square wood lattice panels are so simple in design and yet decorative in appearance. Lattice panels can be used in many ways around the house, yard, or deck. They serve useful purposes from creating privacy to providing a trellis for vines, or can simply be used to enhance the appearance of a wall or outdoor structure. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to enclose a structure or add a decorative touch to the landscape, wood lattice panels are ideal.

Square wood lattice panels can be used in many ways:

Enclose space between deck posts
Enclose hot tub area
Extend privacy fence
Use as trellis
Fencing
Enclose gazebos
Patio or deck covers for cool shade
Skirting

Square Wood Lattice Panels

Lattice skirting is ideal for decks and mobile homes. The lattice allows air to circulate, keeps animals out and adds a beautiful finished look. The same is true for gazebo and hot tub areas. The lattice can be added between framing posts which creates privacy without blocking air circulation. With some imagination, it's possible to use lattice panels almost anywhere in the yard. For example, lattice makes a great anchor for plants that grow as vines. It is useful for hiding unsightly items in the yard like propane tanks or garbage cans.

Many lattice panels you find in stores or online are rectangular panels with criss-cross wood strips forming diamond shapes. The traditional diamond shapes look great, but it's a busier design that may not be the best choice in all situations. The square wood lattice panels are made with vertical and horizontal wood strips stapled at every place the strips connect.

Square wood lattice panels come in a couple of typical sizes. Most panels are 4' X 8', and when you want a 2' section you rip the panel in half with the proper tools. In some stores you will find 2' sections already cut. Lattice is normally either ½" or 1" thick. The 1" thick lattice works well wherever you need to add strength to a structure like a deck.

Lattice panels are made with either pre-treated or untreated wood. Lattice made from cedar wood is weather and insect resistant. When you buy untreated lattice, you'll have to stain or paint the wood panels. The easiest way to do that is to spray paint the panels before installing them.
