Protecting My House with Asphalt Roof Shingle Coverage

The roof on the house is usually the part of the structure that takes the worst weather beating. It gets direct sunlight, survives exposure to wind and hail, and withstands severe storms. The roof also insulates the house. Asphalt shingles are one of the most popular forms of roofing for many reasons with asphalt roof shingle coverage providing important weather protection.

asphalt roof replacement shingles refers to the amount of protection from weather provided by the installation of the shingles. The shingles are overlapped and how that overlapping is installed determines the degree of protection or coverage. Asphalt shingles are made two ways:

Organic mat
Fiberglass mat

Asphalt Roof Shingle Coverage

Organic mat roofing is made with organic felt which is coated with asphalt. Fiberglass mat is made with fiberglass coated with asphalt. Both types of shingles are then covered with ceramic granules that provide U.V. resistant protection. The degree of coverage is created by the number of shingles overlapped. There are three degrees of coverage with each degree corresponding to the number of shingles used in the layering process.

Asphalt shingles are used on the majority of homes, but can’t be used unless there’s enough slope to the roof. The roof must be able to shed water. Fiberglass mat asphalt roof shingle coverage is cheaper than organic mat. Both kinds of shingles come in a large variety of colors.

Asphalt shingles have a lot of advantages over other types of roofing:

They are one of the cheaper roof shingles without sacrificing protection
You have a choice of 20 or 30 year shingles, or in some cases, lifetime protection
They are easy to install making them ideal for a homeowner project
Repairs are easier to accomplish because of the wide availability of asphalt shingles
They are very low maintenance

Choosing between organic mat and fiberglass mat asphalt roof shingle coverage often depends on the kind of climate you live in. For example, fiberglass shingles are more resistant to heat. Fiberglass shingles won’t curl over time either, while organic mat asphalt shingles can curl with age. You can hire a professional roofer to install either kind of roofing.

Choosing the right asphalt roof shingle coverage relies on understanding the conditions the roof must face. Asphalt shingles are used in every region, but the cost can vary. You must balance the cost of the roofing against the level of coverage you need to protect your home.
